Honestly, I'm so bummed. I had been wanting to try this place for a LONG time. Finally got around to going. We had a reservation for 630pm, they took us right away. Wasn't very busy at all when we got there (although it did fill up towards the end of the meal). I started with a beer off the tap, it was delicious and they did have a decent beer selection. We started with the cheese plate appetizer. Out of the 4 or 5 cheeses maybe 1 (cheddar) was really good, the rest were just ok, as one person said before the bread etc that accompanied the cheese was scarce...but again, appetizer. For dinner we both ordered the lobster shrimp butter risotto. The risotto was mush and the lobster seemed like it was cooked twice over. Small lobster to begin with especially for almost 40 dollars. The flavor was decent of the risotto but it was OVERPOWERED with fennel. So much so that my wife had to stop eating it halfway through because all she could taste was the licorice. We ordered the peach bread pudding for dessert. Ice cream was good, the bread pudding was too bread like, not enough milk or moisture. Seemed more pound cakey than bread pudding. And there wasn't a peach or peach flavor to be found. The bill came and it was pricey! We don't normally look at the cost of things...if we're going out, we're going out...but this was enough to jump off the page for what we ate. I wanted to come have a pour of bourbon, but to be honest I was so taken back by the pure disappointment dish after dish, that I wouldn't have enjoyed it so I just said nvm. We won't be back and I'm deeply disappointed by that.

Great vibe, yummy burgers, just a tiny bit too high priced. Our first table was next to the door going outside from a delivery door and cold air was unsettling until we requested to move. The kitchen also messed up our order by putting bacon on the wrong burger, but it turned out well. Wagyu burger was better than the bison burger but the bison burger went really well with bacon. Amount of fries is tiny with the dish, definitely an afterthought more than anything. Cheesecake was a great rich ricotta with a tart cherry.

I can only rave about Carmella's Plates and Pints. The décor is beautiful, the bartenders are fun and kind, and the food and drinks are more than fantastic. I am always blown away by the food when I come here. The octopus melts in your mouth and all other dishes are phenomenal as well. I recommend coming for both brunch and dinner, or just stop by for a drink and dessert. I'm always happy with my experience at Carmella's.

We tried Carmella’s for the first time today! We loved the cozy atmosphere and all the historic Pgh photos and decor. Service was great and the food had a creative touch! We will be back!

COVID-19 practices are pretty tight at Carmela's; social distancing is good, and well adhered to for the most part. All of the staff wears masks, and there are dividers between each of the tables if you sit in the front area however because they made a cloth I'm not sure what they're doing to sterilize those. Otherwise there's hand sanitizer available at all times, and they use QR code menus for everything including the drinks and food.

Do they have mimosas?
