Selection was decent: the highlight here is definitely the selection of pedals available. Staff didn't seem particularly enthusiastic about us, or our purchases, or life in general: there was a marginally antagonistic vibe in our interaction with the staff right off the bat. I get that they probably deal with some interesting characters and being all aloof is a cool Portland thing, but it definitely had us headed to other shops (mainly, Trade Up Music)

I’m not a regular here by any means but I’ve been going to Old Town for a few years. I can deal with the pretentiousness and the hard sell sometimes, whatever, it’s not unique to them. I recently bought a (f’ng awesome) Mascis Jazzmaster there which left a pretty bad taste but both the sales guy and myself knew it was a sale. Again, whatever that’s the game, but it irked me enough to check a Franken-strat I bought 3-4 years ago. The tag said it was a Warmoth neck with American pickups and after pulling the neck today, it is not a Warmoth neck. There are no markings of any kind and I’m going to guess the pickups aren’t legit either. Am I happy with the products I’ve purchased? Yes because I knew what I was looking for and got what I wanted out of them. There are other options in town and online so I go elsewhere but something needed to be said about the Strat being misrepresented.

Shopping here was such a pleasant experience! They let me take my time and play a bunch of different pedals and just wonder around the store without constantly checking on me. They trust me and trust them, 100% recommend!!

I spent $900 here the other day, however I left my iPhone that was charging behind the counter. I came back the next day to get my iPhone and return one of the instruments I’d purchased the day before. I was stunned to be greeted by the manager all up in my face telling me cryptic things that I was supposed to understand apparently. Eventually I was told they believed that I stole a pedal from them... other than explain to them that I did not steal a peddle from them as it was not the pedal I wanted and in fact did buy a Portland made fuzz they had in stock inside instead. They did not allow me to return one of the instruments I’d purchased the day before despite my being there within the 24 hour return policy. And they refused to return my brand new iPhone until I returned the pedal that I didn’t have of course. I felt it was a very unique & Interesting way to treat a customer who’s spent roughly 5k over the last year in this store... but every store owner has their own philosophy on how to treat customers and build a positive reputation for their store, I just simply don’t understand this guys particular philosophy. Perhaps those things I’ve described that transpired last week make you want to shop here, and in that case I stand corrected! If you could try to grab my iPhone I’ll pay a reward LOL

No second hand cellos that I could see. Tons of guitars, a sea of pedals, and a room full of used synths, mostly.
