Dotty Scott and Premium Websites has been my go-to resource for all things websites since 2006. Dotty stays up-to-date on the latest technology and utilizes that information for the benefit of her clients. I have been very happy with the website assistance and training I have received from her. Highly recommended!

Couldn't be happier with my website. Dotty is always available whenever I have questions and always has great input when I want to make my company more visible to individuals searching for contractors on the internet. I highly recommend her for anyone looking to create an attractive and user friendly website.

She explained everything clearly so I was able to make a decision about their services. She quickly worked on the website and kept me informed every step of the way. When it was finished, she sat and explained everything I needed to know going forward and sent me a copy to listen to. I know I can call her and she will work on whatever question I have. I highly recommend Dotty and Premium Websites. She is very professional. Shirley Hoisington

Questions & Answers

What's the current thinking on allowing comments on a website's blog? Is this still a good idea?

It depends on your market and topic. If you are in the tech industry and you post articles on very technical things then comments are useful for questions the reader might have. For the average small business owner the comments bring no value to the topic. I personally have them turned off so I dont have to deal with spam comments.

Do reviews really matter?

YES! Reviews are just as important as a website. I know some contractors that do not have websites, yet get plenty of calls from searches. People find the reviews they have, look at the phone number from the review site and call directly. I know of one that gets more calls then he can handle and often refers the extra work to other contractors. Business owners that are not actively collecting reviews are hurting their own business.

There are so many DIY options available for creating a website. Why would I hire a web designer?

That is a great question! I was just talking with a business owner that used a free website creation tool to build his website. He was calling me because the website is not performing well in the search engines. His site is not found within the first 3 pages (stopped looking after 3). Although a website creation tool is easy is use, it does not help you with getting a website that performs well. It wont tell you to use heading, subheadings, or how to format your content so that your keywords are actually working for you. These tools won't tell you what colors look good together, what format your logo needs to be in, what images to use, how to use video, how to add a scheduling tool, how to create a complex form, or any other technical question you might have. Your website will look and perform better if you hire a professional.

I am a start up business and don't need a big website. Can I do a 1 page site?

Don Gilbo | Aug 18, 2018

The quick answer is yes - you can create a 1 page website. However it will be very difficult to get that site ranked well for your search terms. Every main search term that you want to get ranked well for needs its own page that is all about that topic.

Are the websites you build something a small business owner can maintain and do you teach how to do that maintenance and updates?

Yes - I create most of my small business websites using WordPress. This gives the business owner access to a dashboard where they can make basic changes and edits to their own website. No need to hire a professional to change your hours, address, phone, add or delete team members, add pages, make blog posts, or any other text changes. I do offer a 1 hour training to everyone who purchases a website package from my company.

Can you help me make my website more mobile friendly?

Caron MacLane | Aug 18, 2018
Dotty Scott | Aug 18, 2018

Yes I can. Having a responsive website (1 website for mobile and the same website for desktop) is good to have. Responsive websites detect what type of device is accessing the website and displays the content in the best way for the device. You will have just 1 website - which is good for the new mobile first indexing. Feel free to contact me and we can talk specifics about what you are needing.

How long does it take to get a new website put up? A simple website with a blog, contact form, etc. Thanks!

That is a great questions - and usually the time frame is set by you, the business owner. In a perfect world where all the images, text, and any other content is finished before the website gets started - from start to finish could be as little as a few weeks. We all know that the world is not perfect - an average time is a month or two. Many times websites take several months because the business owner does not have all the website assets ready.
