I did both, online and by phone, Everything was great, we had 4 sites we were extremely happy with the accommodations.
We booked ours online too. If you get there after hours you'll still be able to go to your campsite, R/V lot, or cabin. Just go to the office and they will have your check-in materials there. You can also contact them via email. We had trouble getting in our cabin. We arrived there after hours due to it being in the Eastern time zone. They emailed back abruptly with directions on what may be causing our lock not to open. The instruction worked, they also would've sent a maintenance person had it not. We then unpacked and enjoyed the gorgeous sunset. If the email isn't on KOA Chattanooga's website go to the official KOA site for the email.

I booked online, never confirmed over the phone and still had a spot when I arrived. But be warned... I didn't get the exact spot I had reserved, it was a mixup on their part.
