Hello, In order to rent a boat at the Lake Springfield Marina you must be of 21 years of age and take a rental boat safety course online (http://rentalboatsafety.com/). If you're wondering about general operation of a watercraft on Lake Springfield, this is a quote directly from CWLP's website: "Boating safety courses certified by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are available to Illinois boaters of all ages. Persons who successfully complete a DNR-certified boating safety course will earn a certificate from the State of Illinois. NOTE: Effective January 1, 2016, no person born on or after January 1, 1998, will be allowed to operate a motorized watercraft in Illinois without a boating safety certificate issued by DNR or an entity or organization recognized and approved by DNR."
