It depends how in depth you wish to explore and learn. There are miles and miles of paths and locations to explore so you could spend 2-3 days there. If you just want a quick overview of the area and don't want to see it all yourself then you could do just the museum and presentation and that would be maybe an hour to three hours. It would depend on how long you want to invest. If you are just running thru just looking at the displays and reading nothing you could get it done quickly. If you want to read about the history and learn things it will take longer. Also Monks Mound, the largest mound there, will take you another 30-60 minutes or more depending how much you want to explore it and how long you want to stay on top enjoying the views all around. It all depends on how immursive you want to get into it and how much you want to learn and enjoy it sand not rush through it.

A brief walk through the museum and the orientation video took me less than 30 minutes. Expect about the same for visiting Monks Mound across the road.

I just tried a quick tour. Got caught up in the museum and had less time for walking. With a ten-mile walking trail as an option, you could easily spend the day. If you want a fun break from a long drive, I'd suggest checking the 15 movie in the visitor's center and a walk over to the main mound. If you want to know more after the movie, try the gift store. Lots of educational options to buy there and read at home.
