I'm trying to connect an outdoor hose to my outdoor faucet, however the screw threads on the faucet are tighter than any hose connector I've seen. There must be a fitting with a female receptacle that can fit this and have a male thread for a hose?

Yes there is an adapter you can get. Lowes had one made by Danco - dual standard might work for you. Item# 387204
