I Rent a car to go to many beautiful and interesting places in Fairbanks. Some are included in the tour with Princess. But, apart from that you can do by car: university of Alaska, its museum inside which is wonderful, a place full of flowers and plants quite near the university, the Cheena Hot Springs, just incredible and healthy place to be the whole day. A beautiful cultural center that I can't remember the name. There you can take original maps. And get in touch with all the culture of Alaska. With Princess you will take the Cheena river excursion, beautiful, and the visit to the gold mine. Ask the people from there. Even I went to North Pole house of St. Nicholas. We call him papá Noel in Argentina
There are buses all day. Mostly tour buses. We went on the riverboat cruise. Awesome lunch is served. Went in the 30 below zero room. From California, that's cold. Went to dredge number 8. Mined for gold. Got $33.00 worth. Then we headed out for Denali.
I agree with Susana, rent a car there is sooo much to do and see.
They run a shuttle that takes you a few places. One of which is a couple of blocks from the bus terminal. There you can hop a bus to several places.
I believe they do but I would check with the bus company first
I saw city buses come fairly close so I believe so, but did not use them while I was there.
