The campground can fill up fast especially near the weekends. Closest is Seneca rocks campground. You can also walk into the woods anywhere along the road and wilderness camp as long as you are 300' of the road. Also just below bear rocks preserve there are some boondocking spots that are outside the wilderness boundary.
The USFS raised the nightly rate to $15 at Red Creek as of last month. If it's full you can also hike about 1/2 mile on the Blackbird Knob trail to a large clearing in the woods. It's well used and has a couple of established fire pits.
