Your GPS on your phone tracks where you've been and your maps feature gets that info. Happens to me everywhere I go.

Location data from Google, you can turn it off in your map settings or turn your phones location data off.

I guess i should hav said "wifi bluetooth and location off" and they still have a way to snoop
