is this a great place to let kids play in the water? I saw it is an easy hike to the falls, but is there a great area to splash around in?

It's a great pull over and hike spot. A few minutes down the trail and you are there. Kids braved the water when overnight lows were in the 30s and daytime highs were barely 70. Our dog loved it, too. Watch for the ripples of silver flecks in the creek bottom!

Yes there's plenty of room for kids to splash around. The base of the falls has large pool which I've seen people play in on several occasions. That said, obligatory warning comes next. Watch out for slick surfaces on the way in and out and holes between rocks.

Yes! I went during April and the water was ankle deep and slops gently. Middle is about chest height. COLD water though!

I think so yes. I don't think the water is very deep. The hike to the actual falls is probably less than 2 minutes, not even.
