Is this one of the best beaches for kids to hunt for shells around the area? Is there another beach I should be aware of?

This is my family's favorite beach, but not necessarily best for hunting shells. This beach is shallow pretty far out, so it gives kids (and those not comfortable swimming) lots of space to spread out, play, or relax. If you're looking for a good beach to go shell hunting, my first recommendation would be "Shell Island" (aka Shell Key). It's 45 min to an hour south of Honeymoon, but well worth the ride. You'll have to take a ferry out to Shell Island, but the prices are reasonable. I suggest trying to get on the first ferry in the morning, so you are one of the first ones to the beach - and get there before all the good shells are picked over. Shell Island has no facilities (bathroom, running water - nothing). You can pack a picnic, but be sure to bring your garbage back with you (and don't feed the seagulls!). This is a great place to go if you're visiting the area, or even once a year if you live down here.

Last year at this time we had better shelling at honeymoon. I always suggest water shoes wherever you go. Safety first๐Ÿ˜„

While this beach is nice there are much nicer beaches for finding shells. We found more beautiful shells in Siesta Key. And Venice Beach the kids can find another of shark teeth.

Yes, my kids found loads of great shells. This beach is quite shelled... not great for wading/swimming, but ok for shell hunting

This beach has nice shells yes! Last time i went i found a pice of drift wood and coral that was in perfect condition. If toy take the ferry to caladese the shells are amazing!! And sand dollars. Its more expensive but worth the experience. (:

I'm not from the area, but this was a great spot to find shells! You'll want to go early so you can get on the island. If you're feeling adventurous, Caladesi is also great for shelling and less crowded. Just take the ferry over. There facilities and miles of beach to explore.
