It is a really nice place, especially to have a picnic. The ship is amazing and so it the monument. My family loved it.
Yes it is a,beautiful park to go to
Today is the last day open to the public!
Great for a picnic, clean and quite
The actual re-enactment battle is held each April, there on the grounds. It's a lot of fun for all ages, they have a large festival at the Base of the monument, lot of things for children...
Go to the top of the Monument. It has a great view...
It's basic, no high tech presentation but if you enjoy history I would sure stop by.
The park is nice, but it is not like a city park. It is a more natural environmenr. Lots of trees FILLED with moss. It is like stepping back in time. You can almost imagine what it must have been like at the time of the battle. The monument itself houses an excellent museum of Texaina, and a wealth of information about what is considered to be one of the most decisive battles in history. When the plans were submitted in Washington to request funding assistance to build the structure to celebrate the 1936 Centennial of The Battle of San Jacinto, the plans did not include the 3-dimensional 5-point Lone Star which tops the monument. The promoters were concerned that its inclusion might kill any federal funding. You see, the star makes The San Jacinto Monument taller than The Washington Monument. If you have the opportunity, you should visit the park, and tour the monument.
