This answer may not be what you want to read or see right now, But in the world that we're living in today / 2018, Most delivery people don't really care today. When they 1st got hired, They cared. But after awhile, They were pressured and threatened to do what ever it takes to make that package disappear and NEVER come back. So their mission is to get rid of as MANY packages as soon as possible, By any means necessary. Some of the old fashion workers will bring undelivered packages back to the station at the end of the day, But the Supervisor is usually waiting at the door with a clipboard asking, Why is ALL of these coming back into the building ? - And who want to hear that when it's time to go home, Right ? - So to avoid getting the 3rd degree at the end of your shift by your Supervisor, Most choose option ONE. Leave it and pray to GOD it falls in the right hands. Usually it does, But sometimes it doesn't. Since the package has a Tracking #, They blame YOU also, For not tracking it
Carriers are pressured to get rid of the packages. If you live in a residential area, even if the area is statistically "bad", unless you specify on your door with a legible note "leave notice if not home/do NOT LEAVE pkg" the carrier is allowed to scan and deliver the package as "delivered at door". If your package is stolen, you can be reimbursed by the supplier, not the post office as, technically, the carrier did what they were supposed to do. You can be reimbursed only if the carrier damaged or lost your package.
