I'm not sure what happened in your situation but usually what makes them respond slower than average is how busy the store is. If there's a lot of people at the store, like rush hour, employees have to open up registers and stop helping at the scan&go. That makes sense because the scan&go 'registers' are self-help, if you needed an employee to help you out you'd go to a regular register. Furthermore, there's, at least whenever I go, someone at every scan&go section. Maybe that was a rare occurrence? Hope you have a better experience in the future. ✌️
