You take a paved highway from Phoenix, then after you turn North, you drive 7 miles on gravel until the final parking lot, none of which are paved.
Hi Cyndy. The parking lots are mostly dirt and gravel. Depending on your vehicle it may or may not be good idea to drive up to the parking lot. Passenger car should be fine. Not recommended for sport cars that are low. The road is graded but there are bumps and low dips (big gravels and small gravels). On a sunny day the road should be fine. It's when the weather turn yucky that's when the road condition can get ugly. The trail is beautiful and worth the hike! It is rough terrain. Hope this helps you.
No, its gravel.
Gravel
I only drive an old beater truck that last 5 miles past the school parking lot where everyone else parks the vehicles they care about.
Gravel and dirt, both parking lot and the road. About 6 miles from the end of the paved road to the parking lot. Some ups and downs on what appear to be dry riverbeds. I would recommend at least an SUV to drive there.
It is gravel however appears graded on a regular basis, so since there hasn't been any appreciable rain in some time you should have no problem getting to the trailhead.
It's a dirt and gravel road and parking lot. A civic can handle it but you will need to go very slowly. After rain the road can be very rutted with large rocks exposed. I advise you to have a more off-road suited vehicle.
If you are going with other people who have vehicles that are better suited to a dirt road you can go to the end of the paved Road at Peralta park at the school parking lot and car poll with them which is all dirt road up to and including the Peralta parking.
All gravel and dirt. The Parking is 6 or so miles beyond pavement.
Everything I saw was dirt/gravel, the road getting there is as well
I believe it was all gravel, the road in was gravel if I remember corrwctly.
