We visited Hemingway House over Christmas. We took a tour. The tour guide said that Paula, Hemingway's ex-wife, sold the house when he passed away. She wanted it to remain in the family, but no one wanted it. So she sold it to an estate place, and then the local historical society bought it in its entirety. That is why the original furniture and grounds remain on the site. So said the tour guide. Supposedly, all the cats on the property are descendants of the original polydactyl cat, owned by Hemingway's two sons. The cats are very friendly and are well taken care of. The tour costs $14 apiece, and is well worth it!
Hemingway's son sold the house to a local key west woman after his death. The woman passed away, and her nephew owns it now.
Think the home was donated to the city.
