Increase duck numbers? Really? Did you notice how nothing stayed there last year? When you draw it down in the fall is when ducks would stop over during migration. Also its not for fishing. Warnings all over fish are not safe to eat. Im guessing that sewer they call the Illinois river floods into it and has polluted it beyond repair. Ill share this info on the duck forum I belong to.
Very low been pumping out of the emequon for week's.
The nature conservancy deliberately reduced the water levels by 5 feet. There is a temporary boat ramp which does give boat access but expect the water levels to remain low. Recreation is not the primary concern on this lake.
Water has to be pulled down at times. It is a wetland, not a lake. By lowering the water, sediment can compact, which allows aquatic plants to grow. These aquatic plants, and the macroinvertebrates they provide habitat for, are forage for ducks. Without water draw-down, aquatic plant populations decrease, and thus so will the number of waterfowl visiting the area. Draw down is necessary for a healthy ecosystem.
Emiquon level is abnormal. Will likely stay that way for a time. Ramp access has been moved south from original ramp just to get boats in the water
It is running high right now, due to the recent rains.
