Yes. There are two lists. One for public housing and one for vouchers to assist with rent. Your need to call and check your position on the list weekly, as they take people who are determined most in need first. It is not a first come, first serve basis.
For Public Housing it depends on the bedroom size you qualify for, how many people are on that particular wait list and how many units of that size we have available. PH units only become available when residents move out so the wait list constantly fluctuates. For Section 8, currently the wait list is APPROXIMATELY 3-12 months. The key with either program is to apply immediately and be sure to fill the application out completely. Don't forget to turn in ALL your documents (there's a list on page 3 of each application). Not turning in your supporting documentation causes a delay in processing your application.
