Cost is just the admission fee (presently $30 per carload or $15 per person single driver) and is good for 1 week reentry if you want to drop down for a meal into one of the towns. Straight through will be 4 to 4.5 hours because most of the Drive is 35 mph. If you get stuck behind slow cars or stop at the overlooks plan for an all-day, 8 hour trip. They have quite a few picnic grounds with BBQ pits and tables to prepare your own meal if you like. I recommend bringing a tabletop gas grill if you have it as their pits are taken quickly. It's a beautiful drive and expect unbearable traffic during this time of year (early to mid October) because of leaves changing color. During the week is your best shot to avoid the traffic.
