I've been going to REI seminars for a year and learned alot. Bought 'thru hikers secret' . Good book, he has done 2 thru hikes and wrote it. Very good info. Start practicing weekends and longer. They say best to start in GA in Early April or late March. 12-18 miles a day but some spots u can do up to 20 something. Carrying 5-6 days food @ 2 lbs per day. Pig out and resupply in the town's. Get the book.....
Read the book by Bill Bryson instead of the movie. The movie is mostly fiction. The book is much more funny and honest.
It is over 2000 miles long shelters are 5 to miles apart it all depends on ur physical limitations start walking everyday when u can tolerate walking ten miles per day i think u should b more than ready make sure u take water filtration bottle flashlight emergency blanket oatmeal protein bars n get ready for beauty and fun plus u will meet wonderful people some acess points have a steep mtn incline to get up on trail enjoy take care
Its a long hike. About 2 or 3 mos. I only did 100 miles took 3 weeks
I would say start out with 5-7 miles per day. Then you can slowly add a few miles per day on as you get used to it. Don't try to do large miles at the start or you will end up with blisters, tendonitis, and other assorted ailments that will cut your hike short within the first few weeks. Overall, I would say 5-7 months is what you should plan on. By the end, you will probably be doing some 20+ mile days, but let that come naturally.
No really sure I seem to remember a shorter trail and a longer path which is a opposition
