Should cedar wood contain knots for fencing around a home or should cedar wood be clear of knots in the boards?

All lumber contains knots including the Japanese Cedar that was mentioned below which is actually closer to a spruce/pine than actual cedar. If you are wanting boards without knots it is a grade called clear which is significantly more expensive but available in Western Red Cedar. I'm sorry guys The only cedar with no not is the Japanese Cedar but Western red cedar always have not...

It should not have knots because they fall out over time leaving holes in the boards
