Why am I paying to recycle? Doesn't this just drive me to throw my old TV, computer, mattress, etc into the dumpster? Should be getting credit for recycling to build compliance.

It's definitely a drag to pay to dispose of things, but the alternative is to increase taxes on everyone to operate the facility. Besides, unless you're getting rid of a giant CRT it's usually only a couple of dollars anyway.

You are correct, recycling should be rewarded. However, this facility is specifically for hard to recycle items, and hard to recycle items cost money to recycle. This fee allows the facility to remain in operation. Until producers of these materials are forced to only use recycled materials instead of raw materials or pay for the recycling fees themselves, we will have to pay for it.
