I agree. I've been shopping here for several years and the prices are beginning to make brand new retail items much more desirable. I'd say especially in the last 1 year - 18 months....the prices feel almost doubled (some times more than double)
Lol they keep raising their prices? Like I can remember watching people buy anything cheap and then admit it goes online to make a profit. Lol I'm quite happy with the higher prices I can buy stuff that is useful plus what we spend here does go for a good cause Habit for Humanity. Do you know how much guilt this place has saved me. Repurposing can save alot if you look at that store most if not all would be in a land fill just because there was no store front to sell it
E. Matthews, while I can appreciate your attempt at an explanation... it wasn't a good one. I'd hardly call the comment insidious btw... Perhaps some research on the definition of the word is in order for you. Moving on.... I've been in Human Resources for over 18 years, so I'm adept in market salaries, however, the COL increase does not warrant more than double prices. There are large discrepancies between store pricing.... Even for very similar and sometimes, identical item. I looked at a hutch awhile back and 2 stores had the identical hutch (oddly). One store priced it $45, while the other store priced it at $110. Another example, I went to the Aurora ReStore & they are selling 1 qt Famowood Pour-on epoxy (slightly used), for $25.... Home Depot sells it not used, for less. I understand the difference between big box stores and not. I prefer to frequent locally owned businesses, but their prices need some attention.
Are these reviews serious?.....just so we're clear Habitat is a Charity / NON-profit? Any and ALL money spent here is a DONATION... Same with good dropped off aka DONATED.... As far as I'm concerned Habitat is a GREAT store, you offer a GREAT option and I 100% for FACT know has a positive effect on the community at large, keep up the good work Habitat you guys ROCK!!!!
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We are always trying our best to provide quality products at a good value. Being a donation based organization can be a challenge when we need to juggle the wishes and interests of our donors, the interests of Habitat, and of course our customers. We appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow. Pricing and product evaluation are key places for these opportunities. We will look into these concerns and make adjustments as needed.
In my opinion you all need to realize that it's a donation-based store and just do some research. Shopping at thrift places is hit and miss and not everything in there is a bargain. On the same token, you can get some things for a steal if you look around. Craigslist is also a great place to pick up items you may be looking for- people post all kinds of items like this for free on there, but timing is everything. The good thing about thrift stores is you can usually haggle a little. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
All thrift stores are doing that. More people shopping thrift, so supply and demand. They can get more. Bought a sofa. Was't cheap, but was nice. Found out they used some very smelly deoderizer/disinfectant. I can't get the smell out. I paid for a delivery and now $$ on cleaning stuff. I should have bought new NEVER AGAIN. I do not have that kind of money to waste. Now I have to pay someone to dump it and I have no sofa. (Got rid of old one). BEWARE.
