Rain would certainly not improve the gravel road but would keep the dust down. Many very narrow spots so visibility could be an issue.
I have never driven it in a heavy rain, but I have found that while a good bit of the roads going in from either direction are dirt and gravel, I have not noticed any severe pot holes or ditches within the road that would cause concern. The shoulder of the road could be another story.
