There is a dedicated swimming section near the point on the south side. It is a lot more Rocky that the other beaches but not too bad. If you have sensitive feet, I'd recommend some kind of sandles or swim shoes.
Could be alligators. Or could be proximity to the restricted area.
Right at Fort Zack it is just a channel around the fort, the beach or Rocky beach is just beyond, you would take a path to the beach from the entry way of Fort Zack, I don't know if I would swim in the channel, murky water when I was there.
