My friend has a de-scented, neutered, vaccinated, litter box trained, healthy, 1-yr-old, male skunk. He is friendly, but does nibble toes at times. My friend no longer has time for him. Do you have any suggestions on finding him a good home? Lorie

In Utah the only legal chance for a good home would be to reach out to licensed animal education facilities that might take him for an education ambassador. You are looking with a facility that likely already has USDA permits for mammals. You might check with Hogle Zoo, Loveland Aquarium, etc. but don't know of any specifically. It'll take some work to do this right, but start searching and making contact--just make sure they are legal or he will not likely get the proper care and attention and only be a "novelty animal" that will likely be dumped or passed on again.

skunk, raccoon, red fox, coyote are considered nuisance species, but the utah dept. of ag has a form online where you can apply for a permit to keep one of these species. You have to meet certain requirements. I do not know if there is a fee for the permit. Look under the Utah State dept. of Ag to find about about their cor

Where do you live? Some states like Utah and Idaho do not allow people to keep skunks as pets. In fact, it's illegal in Utah for anyone to have one.
