Depends on the animal you want. They all have to be spayed/neutered first, and if they're not they have to have the surgery before they can leave. If they are already fixed they can potentially go home same day if your background check passes.
The paperwork doesn't take long, but they have to do a background check which may take a couple days (the pet you're interested in will be placed on hold until that comes back)
