BNA stands for Berry Field Nashville. Berry Field was the designation of the airfield during WWII era. The airport terminal itself was a small building; that facilitated a whopping 2 flights per day! On the West side of the field was Vought aircraft company. Plenty of aircraft were built out of this facility, tested and flown from Berry Field. One would think the natural identifier for Nashville International Airport would be NAS? And you would be correct. But NAS is synonymous with the identification of all existing U.S. Naval Air Stations.
Berry field, Nashville
