Is there public parking for guest of campers?

Yes

Each site can generally hold 2 or 3 cars. If you are visiting for the day you should be fine. There is a camp host on site, just run any odd scenarios by him or her once you get set up.

I just spoke with the people who work there and she said there is public parking about 1 1/2 miles away

They do not have a public parking area at the site but each camp site could accommodate about 2 vehicles
