Just a rule of thumb on this question if your going to have a big size group 6 to 8 or more I would call a head but in general no you don't need a reservation at all but it's really odd for no one to pick up I've call countless times and always gotten someone or the owner. But in general it's a fantastic place to eat and the staff are very outstanding.
Usually it's not necessary. I call ahead for weekend or large groups. The wait can be long when the weather is perfect and it's the weekend.
