I adopted a dog his name is Tyson he was in the pound for 9 months pitbulls are very hard to adopt their I would suggest if he is a pitbull that you specifically look up a pitbull Retreat and ask them if they can give you further advice on your question as far as any other dog if it's a puppy they usually go quick.
Angels of Assisi or RVSPCA. Both are no- kill. A puppy would get snatched up quickly
