You may need to go to the Hospital directly and tell them your intention to visit with patients. Also, Hospitals have Volunteer Services and they are always looking for Volunteers. So they may permit or allow it as a Volunteer Service.
I would call the hospital to check. I know in Indiana I got permission to visit the oncology wards just to visit and read to people that were there. I didn't know any of them.
