Our shelter is Open Door, meaning that we accept all incoming animals, regardless of the condition of the animal. We do not have a waiting list and we will rarely reject an animal. We don’t impose a time limit on an animal’s stay and strive to find new ways to treat animals with medical or behavior problems, as well as enrich the pets while in our care. At times, we do have to euthanize animals, but mainly for reasons pertaining to health or temperament. When our shelter is full, unfortunately we may need to euthanize for space; however, only as a last resort. We do everything in our power to find homes for all pets in our care or transfer them to other shelters, rescues, or fosters.
I think they do. I just don't think they like to. My dog had kennel cough and they were gonna put him to sleep but I got him. I chose a different first and they said he had Parvo caught there and put him to sleep. They will do it for some reason or another.
