No, the attach the diagnostic reader to the port just under the dash, and the exhaust fume analyzer goes into the tailpipe. They didn't open my hood at all. They also check the pressure capacity of the gas cap. Then they simulate driving in traffic, and that's it. Pass or fail, the car is tested and you pay and leave.

Yes, i believe they attach under the hood and the tailpipe.
