The pass is $17 annually at the gate. I do not believe you can get a pass for just one day. Or, renew the pass on your license tabs and it only costs $11 per year.
There is a daily cost, it is cheaper in long run to get the season pass.
Season pass when you renew your license plate is the way to go. It it good for entrance to all state parks. Island Lake has much to offer for anyone who likes the outdoors.
I believe the daily pass is $6 but it has been awhile. You can go to secretary of state and add a pass to your registration and plate at any time for $11.
