What is the closest hotel to the pier? Is it easy to walk to the pier from a hotel? How could transportation be arranged from a hotel to the pier for a person in a wheelchair?

I don't know about walking distance, but we found hotels that were a very short cab/uber ride and upon request, the local cab companies have accessible vehicles.

IDK how close it is but there's a motel 6 that has a shuttle to the ship

Many hotels offer free stay and ride or park and ride services to individuals who drive in and need to park their car. At minimum one can easily find many hotels who have shuttle services to its guests to the terminal at no charge by simply calling and asking.

I'm not sure I have close friends and family in the area

Most larger hotels have some form of guest transportation that can accommodate a wheelchair. I know of no hotels in easy walking distance to the terminal, especially for a traveller needing wheelchair assistance. Best bet is to contact a nearby hotel that you'd find using Google Maps and ask them if they can accommodate your request

Yes that's true as long as you stay with them

I've been told that the local Holiday Inn has free parking and transportation to and from the terminal as long as you stay with them.
