I have been dog sitting for a family member but now my family is homeless and can't afford to care for two pitbull girl dogs. Can someone please help? I can't take care of them anymore, what should I do?

Tell the family member to pick up their dogs. They should be kenneling them or finding a proper sitter. I doubt they want their dogs on the street. You also can't legally sign someone's dogs over to a rescue or shelter without the owner's permission unless the owner has already relinquished ownership to you. The owner could very well sue you if you get rid of their dogs. You're in a bit of a bind. You have a legal right to contact their owner to give them back if you can't care for them. Find out your legal rights. Do your due diligence.

DO NOT TAKE ANIMALS TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY!!! They are a major kill shelter-- especially with dogs that have bad reputations like pit bulls. Even if they are sweet. They will kill animals that are really young, if they are older, if they growl, if they are shy, if they have an infection or sick for any reason. First, listen to Julie B. below. Then if you need to place them yourself... PLEASE look for a good home, then a No Kill shelter. Do your homework. Look for a Pitbull Rescue Organization. Don't go to the Animal Protective Association on Hanley Road either-- also a kill shelter.

If you live in the city try calling ACC and they might be able to help you or at least tell you what you can do. If you live in the county I would call the humane society. Good luck finding them homes!!
