Rebekah is right. There's also a farmer's market in Bedford town, last time I was there it was Tuesday and Saturday, with the Tuesday one actually at the ymca. Also check with the Bedford Urban Gardens folks (I'm sure they're on fb) over on Jackson in Bedford town. They may sell tomatoes but they're also connected into the producer's network.
Have you tried farmers markets in Lynchburg or Forest? I've seen farmers selling tomatoes by the box at Lynchburg's market, I think price depended on the size of the box, but it seemed like a deal. I know Mountain Fruit and Gross' orchard sell tomatoes, but not really by the box. Theirs are usually $1.50/lb.
