One star because they are sending me bills that I already paid
Henry McCallum
Gave one star because zero is not an option. I did not receive a real estate property tax bill this year. I keep track of my finances on Quicken and promptly pay all bills electronically. Beginning last Month I was wondering why I have not received real estate bill when according to previous payments it should have been at my house. I attempted to call 6-7 times to ask if the bills had come out, but only received a voice message saying they were to busy to answer the phone and call back later. I finally took the initiative to stop by the office to get an answer and obtain an amount if my bill was in fact due. I was met by an rude employee, far right side, who was cold as stone. She stated that it is my responsibility to know when the bill was due each year (suspect I'm also to know the amount?) and pay it on time and that I now have a $48 late fee. I said I have been trying to call so I could find out if the bills had gone out and the amount so I could pay, can she please eliminate the fee? She simply said they were too busy to answer the phones and that the fee is to stay. Seriously, this is the best they can do? People have to remember? This is not very accommodating for individuals with memory issues or to individuals who do not place the Bedford County Treasurer as a top priority in their lives. With talented, professional staff and the use of technology (and a little effort), I suspect there is a better way to collect revenue. Maybe new leadership?

Never in my life have I been hung up on by a public office.... lovely way to treat the citizens who help pay your salary and give you a job. I was not rude but asking for a resolution on situation. Must be nice to be able to hang up on who you want, never answer an email and then decide not to answer the phone.

This elected government agency doesn’t care about its citizens or doing the right thing. It only cares about being a tax collector. Good thing the citizens of Bedford County vote who runs this office in the future.

I reached someone at the tax office by phone, and I was told that Charlotte, North Carolina, is the location of the bank that provides the Bedford County Virginia Treasurer’s Office with financial management services.
