Why are they holding these animals hostage? If you really wanted to get rid of those animals so bad change he rules and regulations. Allow the society to come and pick these animals up without all the red tape of fees.

Hi Melody, there are no animals being held hostage here. The Humane Society receives pets from owners that for one reason or another can no longer take care of their pet. Many of these pets come to us with expensive medical or behavioral treatments needed. We provide that care and then try to find new homes for these pets. There is a small, standard adoption fee that helps us recoup some of the costs of providing care for these pets while they are here, but it doesn't nearly cover all the costs. The Humane Society 'loses' money on every pet that comes through our door, but we are here because we love animals and we provide a much needed service to our community. Please feel free to reach out directly at (912) 354-9515 x102 if I can help resolve a specific issue.

They have to make sure that these babies are going to good caring owners. After all, someone just being able to pick them up is how some of them got there in the first place.
