NYers don't go to Central Park at night. It's NOT "secured," and not a plan. Strawberry Fields is fairly close to 72nd St, not deep into the Park, but it's still not wise to be in the Park after dark. It is a huge city, & muggings & crime in general do occur. At night you might want to stay in well lit and well frequented areas - around enough people - & not in any dimly lit area, & away from any disreputable neighborhoods also. Central Park after dark has a bad rep for a reason. While you might be safe, you can't actually count on that. In any major city after dark, people should be careful, perhaps especially in touristy areas where the lesser locals might expect to find less streetwise individuals. Being in the Park at night is like wearing a t-shirt that says "naive & unprepared." Don't do it, please! Police simply cannot be everywhere at once & criminals can be very bold. It's no secret that addicts exist & desperation makes people take risks so go in daytime & not alone.
