It depends, you can get the code read by any dealer which will probably be at a cost or for free at AutoZone

Having always had excellent service experiences (2 cars) Id suggest taking it to the people that know the car best. Check engine light deals with pollution control related issues and your economy can declune.

A check engine light could be caused by numerous things. We recommend bringing the car in, so the fault code can be pulled and the engine light diagnosed. We at Bel Air Subaru can diagnose it for you usually in an hour or less and I have availability today to do so. We normally do not charge to diagnose the check engine light (unless tear down is required to determine cause). Please give us a call or let us know if you'd like to come in.

Do not confuse engine light with tire sensor lights. If you are certain it is the engine light, take the vehicle to them for a trained professional advice.

You should go have your car serviced
