Dear Sue Ellen Foley, Here in Cook County, residential plats of survey are not filed with any office unfortunately. Accordingly, if you don't have the original one which was tendered to you at closing as a part of your closing paperwork, then you will have to have a new one commissioned. They typically run $495 for a staked survey and $350 for a non-staked survey. If you would like a referral to such a surveyor, please feel free to visit our website of www.lawofficesofmarioareed.com for our contact information and we would be more than happy to assist. Best of luck and hopefully you yet have the original one.

Visit your jurisdiction's building inspector or the land records office. Many jurisdictions keep surveys on file at the city building inspector's office. You can also get surveys connected with tax maps or half-section maps from the county's land records office -- usually the county assessors
