The zoo is free admission for all. Parking in their lot has a cost (it varies between $20-35 for the day), and can be paid for at the time of visit. The carousel and kids train inside the zoo have an additional cost (about $4 per person) and those tickets can be purchased there.
No. I didn't when I went. Just went. You get a ticket when entering and then you pay when you leave and put the ticket in there. It is free but you do have to pay for parking which was 30 for us.
No, it's a free zoo. That being said they do accept donations at the gate to help with the daily operating cost of the zoo

It's free
Admission is free you just have to pay for parking. Or any additional rides like the carousel and train. Unless there's events like in the winter for light show then yeah I'd recommend buying online.
It is free but the old saying "you get what you paid for" definitely applies
