Lincoln Park zoo area is safer area, you can go from the mag mile all the way down to the museum of science and industry and be fine. I would not recommend going south of that, it is very windy down town dress warm if walking, an 80 degree day walking around the high rises can feel like 60 in shade and wind.
By this zoo during the day it is very safe
Do not go down town with those ignorant young people. I live in Chicago all my life and this the worst in life. Down town was so safe and beautiful. You could go down town at anytime but now take a brick, gun or something cuz you never know when someone will hit you from behind!!! Not trying to scare you but the truth will keep you alive
If you stay in touristy areas, you should be fine. Try to avoid when it's dark out and travel in grpups
Zoo area is safer to visit
Dress in layers and prepara for high winds. We do see crime but it's not as often as the news portrays. This zoo lights event is ver safe specially now. Although free you still have to reserve an entry.
Please visit Day Time .
It is very safe and most of the tourist areas such as magnificent mile, millennium park, Lincoln Park, Lincoln Park zoo. What you hear about Chicago mostly happens in certain areas.
There were children all over the place and I many security guards as well. So yes, I think you're safe!! Merry Christmas
Very safe
Safe
Revisited Chicago Dec. 1 - Dec. 5 from Seattle with daughter for a food & cultural tour. Stayed near O'Hare suburbs for cheaper rates, and used public transportation completely for travelling around. Returned to motel some days after midnight. Overall, I find it pretty safe as long as you remain alert constantly. Comparing Seattle and Chicago city areas, Chicago is a lot safer. (Seattle has a bad homeless issue that city government is not taking care of. Tents on major streets everywhere.) There was only a minor incident near Wrigley Field with 2 intoxicated people in the afternoon 1 day, but the rest of the time I never felt unsafe! Regardless, remain vigilant at all times and avoid crowds as best as you can; otherwise, enjoy the city, the culture, architecture, and the UNIQUE GREAT FOODS (Stuffed pizzas, Italian Beef sandwiches, etc.) this city offers that most others do not. Do prepare also for the wind chill of the Windy City!
I've never had any trouble walking around. There are millions of people living in Chicago who never experience these problems.
Zoo has private security on site believe me I se them in day time if u concern re zoo safety please speak to the zoo staff or the manger of security guards.
Being aware of your surroundings is suggested, but that's anywhere you go. Stick to the main touristy areas if you're unsure, don't trek too far off path. Stay away from the Red/Blue line as those are underground and tend to be lined with theives that pray on distracted people. Open areas are great and walking around is generally safe.
It is safe ...no worries...millions are visiting the city...no issues
Very safe downtown pretty well contained on crime it's when u not around downtown area that it might not be safe for young kids, lady with baby in hand might not get messed with
I have enjoyed many wonderful activities in Chicago from Summer to winter. I don't live my life like that. Wondering and being afraid and I have a 6 year old. Live your life to the fullest .
