We found our dog using petfinder.com and he happened to be at this rescue. You can set the filter based on what you're looking for and change the radius so you're not driving very far. It makes it a little bit easier. The people at the shelter should also be able to help you. They seemed to have a very hands on approach with the dogs and even have some around the office from time to time. :)

They may have smaller dogs. You just have to go and look or try aspca.org. that is how we found our dog here. Or you could even try giving them a call to see if they have any smaller dogs
