For decades, there were more colleges and universities in Nashville than in any other city in America. In an early attempt at branding, Nashville was known as the Athens (Greece ) of the South, because of all of this higher education and learning. This was way before country music was even invented. In the 1890s, there was a world's fair in Nashville and a temporary Parthenon was constructed for that and the building was so popular, a permanent version replaced it.
It is a beautiful place to visit and it is a major attraction for the city of Nashville. The park usually hosts concerts on the weekends.
