I will forever call this park Lake Wood. I think it’s great to honor him but this wasn’t the way it should have been done. A new park dedicated to him YES, this park Who’s name has been Lakewood since the beginning, No....NO!

Wow Tanisha, if you didn't hear we did start a petition right before they decided to change it. But nobody wanted to listen. They're not childish issues or childish views just like of course you would say something like that because of well yeah I don't have to say it because it might be childish to you. But it was not supposed to be meant to be racist or nothing I was saying that they need to stop changing all of the historical places different people's names not just Martin Luther King's name. They're it's like the erasing history that's all. And for your concern I'm a Yankee from Michigan I was not born down here so technically I shouldn't really have nothing to say or care about it but I live in Statesville now so I do. And Matt Manning who are you talking to?

I completely agree with you guys. It's like a slap in the face to rename an old park and call it doing something.

It's really sad that they changed the name from Lakewood Park to Martin Luther King Park. It's great that MLK is being honored but not ok to change the name of a park that has been there since it's first opening. I think they want to see how many people of all colors they want to tick off. Change the park's name back to Lakewood Park and build a new park and then call it Martin Luther King Park. ☺

You guys are quite childish. I'm glad your opinions are just that. We didn't want the park named after him in the first place. Why don't you start a petition to get it changed back or be quite??🙄🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️and I'm not taking my kids there since reading these comments and seeing what type of people live in the area.weirdos

Why does absolutely everything have to be turned into something racist? Even I can tell no one them were being racist. This is exactly why people like me choose the option of just staying home and away from childish people. Instead of arguing of childish things and then claiming someone is racist because you read something wrong, try actually talking to these people you don't even know and really hearing their views on things. Everyone screams "we want change!" Change starts with everyone understanding others point of views on things. Just because one doesn't agree to a name change, doesn't make them racist. Not going to a park because you took things wrong and totally misunderstood things doesn't make you racist either. It makes you one confused and mislead little girl who needs to open her eyes to reality
