That would be a question for statesville city council. I think its great that they want to honor MLK , but personally feel they screwed up on this. Just the sign to change the name was 4 grand. I'm still unclear as to why the city did this. With Statesville developing as it is, maybe they should have built a new park and let lakewood park remain lakewood
Statesville shining in another part of their ignorance, no backbone and poor financial planning in the community. America has MLKjr memorials throughout practically ever state yet America still thrives on ignorance, racism , protest and destroying American history... so who actually supports the MLKjr Dream? Statesville never had a reason to change the name of this park.
To waste money
I wish they had left the name alone. If """WE""" are REMOVING ALL OUR STATUES of HISTORY, then STOP changing the names to link BACKWARDS to History ❣️ STOP TEACHING HISTORY ❣️ LET'S just call everybody """JOHN or JANE DOE""" ❣️ IT'S so crazy without changing names of football teams, streets, parks, boulevards, highways, buildings (unless YOU buy it)❣️ LAKEWOOD PARK more describes that park that the Church where i go uses it even a couple times a year & reserves shelters to handle all that come from in & out of town. There are beautiful trees for shade, walking areas, plenty of parking, small stream, play areas for children, restrooms, etc. LET'S just LEAVE SOME THINGS ALONE...IT """AIN'T""" BROKE... Don't fix it❣️The money could have been more wisely used❣️
4 grand?? Maybe just for the ones AT THE PARK. Lol.. Think of all the other ones they have to change now.. I guessing whem all said and done prob going to be around 50 grand!! Thats just a guess tho.
